Finishing

Our finishing operations include both saddle wire and perfect binding. Harris Heidelberg and Goss high speed selective demographic saddlebinders offer in-line co-mailing in our weekly pools. As of March 2009, variable trim capabilities allow us to combine catalogs of different sizes into the same in line pools, allowing us to combine catalogers by demographics as opposed to trim size. We are a beta site for this new technology and initial feedback from our customer base has been extremely positive; our clients are able to maintain the unique size and character of their catalog while gaining all of the financial benefits from in line co mailing. Our off line co-mailing weekly pools allow for catalog products from 7¾" to 8¾" wide, saddle or perfect bound. In-line and off-line tabbing machinery makes us an excellent source for letter rate (slim-jim) catalog projects. Perfect binding capabilities allow us to efficiently deliver page counts in excess of 1,100 pages with thicknesses up to 1¾". Perfect binder speeds as much as 15,000 books per hour coupled with large format presses make us one of the country's fastest and most effective providers of multi-hundred page, four-color documents.

USPS sees mail volume fall

With first-class mail slowly eroding away, the time is now to implement five-day delivery, according to Sam Pulcrano, vice president of sustainability for the U.S. Postal Service. “The dilemma we have is it’s growing and growing exponentially,” Pulcrano said during a March 29 conference call. “We really can’t do anything without legislative changes.”

The Postal Service has seen its mail volume fall 20% since 2006, and it’s expected to drop another 20 billion pieces in the next 10 years. First-class mail is expected to fall by 30 billion pieces, while modest growth is anticipated for advertising mail.
